Long Branch State Park (map)

Located along the banks of Long Branch Lake it combines wooded

areas and restored rolling prairie.  A 1,834 acre park is well suited

for water recreation.  It offers boat launching facilities, a sand

beach for swimming, camping and picnic areas along with an 

exercise trail beside the lake. Great Boating and water fun.

One of the oldest parks in the system, this park overlooks the 

18,600 acre Mark Twain Lake.  Although the park is located in the 

Salt River Hills North of the Missouri River, the area contains many 

plants characteristic of the Southern Ozark Region.  The 2,775 

acre park offers camping, picnicking and with the lake boating and 

fishing.  Several Marinas are also available.  It also includes Camp 

Colborn a place for organized group camping.  Close to Hannibal 

the birthplace of Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmons) and a Water Park 

nearby there is plenty to do and see.  Fun for the Fisherperson 

or the whole family.

Pershing State Park (map)

Established in honor of General John J. Pershing, the 3,143 acre 

park is a superb example of pre European settlement landscape of

Northern Missouri.  Locust Creek which runs through the park is

one of the last sizeable streams in this Region that has not been

channelized.  Along the creek, visitors will find richly forested 

bottomlands, shrub swamps, marshes and a 1,000 acre wet prairie.

a 1.5 mile interpretive boardwalk allows access to the wetland

area.  A shady campground, archer range, swimming area and four

small lakes for fishing are available.

Thousand Hills State Park (map)

Nestled in the green hills of Northern Missouri, this State Park is

centered around the 573 acre Forest Lake.  The wooded park offers 

swimming, picnicking, camping and hiking trails.  The 3,125 acre

park also features cabins, a full service marina and a dining lodge.

A shelter protects 1,000 year old Native American petroglyphs.

Wakonda State Park (map)

A favorite among Fishing Enthusiast, this park features numerous 

lakes and a large sand beach with room for a variety of beach 

sports.  The 1,053 acre park is a good spot for bird watching.  It also 

features a campground, rental boats, picnic sites, food concession, 

canoe rental and a beach with lifeguards.  Recreational vehicles are 

also available.
